The first Layette was given to a child born at Christmas in 1884.
Mary Virginia Merrick officially founded the Christ Child Society in 1887. In 1916 Mary incorporated the Society's chapters into the National Christ Child Society. She was the National President until 1948 but remained “honorary” president. She was president of the Washington Chapter until her death in 1955.
The National Board members represent 12 different chapters ranging from small to large. This allows the board to be well-rounded and create a successful leadership team.
