Melanie Mbuyi

The strong sense of community and friendship among the Christ Child Society members of the Washington DC Chapter has captured my loyalty for almost 20 years.  Serving on the National Board for these past few years has been fun and rewarding, giving me the chance to get to know the Society’s great work and its dedicated members from around the country.”

Melanie serves the 2016-2018 National Christ Child Society Board as Co-Chair of the Membership and Expansion Committee, and as a member of the Finance and Development Committees.  This is her second term on the National Board.

Melanie has been a member of the Christ Child Society of Washington, DC for 19 years, beginning her involvement with the Mary Kennedy Guild, where she served as Guild Co-Chair.  She first joined the Washington, DC chapter’s Board of Directors in 2005 and served on that board continuously until 2014.  Melanie served as the chapter’s President from 2010-12.

Melanie has worked at the World Bank in Washington, DC since 1991.  After many years with the Africa Finance and Markets Department, she is currently with the East Asia Pacific team.  Prior to that, Melanie worked for five years under contract with the U.S. Department of State as the Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa, The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).  She also spent five years as a volunteer and staff member for the U.S. Peace Corps in the DRC.

Melanie also serves on the Board of The Community Building Group in Washington, DC where she volunteers her time to help raise resources and awareness for their Give Water Give Life program in West Africa.
